About this tool
Count filler words in your transcript
Filler words make spoken drafts sound hesitant on the page. This filler word counter scans pasted or imported text locally and highlights common fillers such as um, uh, like, and you know. You get a total count, rate per 100 words, and in-context highlights. Nothing is uploaded.
How it works
Paste a transcript or import a .txt file. The tool counts matches, shows the most frequent fillers, and highlights them in your text. Analysis runs in your browser with no account.
A sample transcript loads by default so you can see the tool immediately. Replace it with your own dictation output anytime.
Why filler words matter after dictation
Speech-to-text captures what you say, fillers included. Before sending an email or notes, spotting patterns helps you tighten phrasing or re-record cleaner takes. Pair this tool with speech to text or live speech to text.
What we count (English)
Common patterns include: um, uh, er, ah, like, you know, I mean, kind of, sort of, basically, actually, literally. The list focuses on typical spoken fillers, not every informal word.

Tips to reduce fillers
Pause briefly instead of saying um. Use short sentences. Record in a quiet room with a mic that passes our microphone test. Review with speaking speed test if you tend to rush.
