About this tool
Measure your speaking speed (words per minute)
How fast do you speak in meetings, videos, or rehearsals? This speaking speed test helps you estimate words per minute (WPM) with two modes: a timed read-aloud with a stopwatch, or a calculator when you already know duration and word count. Everything runs locally. No microphone transcription on this page unless you paste text yourself.
Timed read-aloud mode
Read the sample paragraph aloud. Start the timer when you begin, stop when you finish, then confirm the words in the box below. WPM = word count ÷ time in minutes. A sample loads by default so you can try the flow immediately.
WPM calculator mode
Paste any transcript and enter duration in seconds or mm:ss. Useful for podcasts, interviews, or classroom timing.
Typical speaking rates
- Slow / deliberate: under ~110 WPM
- Conversational: roughly 120–160 WPM
- Fast: 160–190 WPM
- Very fast: above ~190 WPM
Clarity matters more than speed. This tool is for awareness, not judgment.
No automatic transcription here
Starting the timer does not record or transcribe your voice. If you want speak-to-text, use speech to text or live speech to text, then paste the result here or use the calculator.
